To the Membership,
Yesterday afternoon, the TWU International elections took place at the TWU International Convention. I was nominated and voted in as one of the TWU International Vice President’s for the next four years. With this position comes some very important responsibilities and that is something I do not take lightly.
Before any stories get started, I am, and am going to remain President of Local 591 and this position is in addition to my current duties. I will also only receive one salary, not two, and it will be listed for any member to review on the DOL LM-2. I will receive no additional fringe benefits from American Airlines, which has become the standard of TWU International over the last four years. And finally, my role in the negotiations will remain as it has been previously; and I fully expect American to negotiate to conclusion the contract the membership not only deserves but was also promised by the leadership of American Airlines.
Most importantly, I want the membership to know that my decision was made with full transparency and support of the Executive Board; and they along with the Local 591 elected delegates voted for me in achieving this position. As Local 591 has grown to become one of the largest Locals in TWU, I along with the Executive Board believed that our Local needed a more active voice at the International. And while I will be your voice, I also remember what it is to be a part of a much smaller Local and never will forget that they too deserve my voice as well. As many of you know over the last four years there has been a seismic shift in TWU International; and there is still a lot of work to do. What I also know based on my conversations with the our membership, the Executive Board, and the TWU International Leadership is that by working collectively over these next four years that transformation will continue to happen.
