To the Membership:
This Thanksgiving it is important that I recognize not only our members efforts, but that of all labor organizations both on the American property and those throughout the country who have supported our efforts to gain the contract our members deserve. Thank you!!!
The next three weeks and beyond, through the end of 2017, will be tell us all the truth of how serious the senior leadership team is about negotiating the best contract in the industry; with us. My commitment is unwavering, in that we must get this agreement done before years end; no matter how many hours or days that takes. It is unacceptable for the leadership to further delay us in achieving the contract we so rightly deserve. In all of my years at American, I have never experienced the level of tension between frontline employees and management, in line maintenance. The survey results, although still very questionable, show the level of trust in management by employees remains very low. I am willing to bet that the data from the “line employees” was off the chart in this area of dissatisfaction. I don’t want to dwell on the negative, but the question now becomes what will the senior leadership do to transform the “line organization?” Ratification of a new agreement is only one piece of what is needed to turn employee morale and confidence around. I would go so far as to say that the senior leadership now knows, by the survey results, that change is not only needed - but must happen quickly if they truly what to develop a level of trust in the future
I will close with this, these next few weeks will not be easy for us at the bargaining table, nor for the membership working to provide our passengers safe reliable travel through the holiday season. I looked at the American’s performance yesterday and the numbers were staggering; it shows that even though management has yet to deliver on their promise of the best contract in the industry, our members put passenger and flight crew safety above all else. I am proud of the membership for never wavering in their conviction to provide safe reliable aircraft. We must make sure that management realizes none of us are happy that this new agreement is not done, while reminding them that we will not compromise our integrity or professionalism when it comes to passenger and flight crew safety.
