Aviation Mechanics—Your Experience Matters
Jan 15, 2026

Members of TWU Local 591,

Local 591 has a long tradition of strong leadership in aviation maintenance—built by Members who take pride in their craft and in sharing their knowledge with others. Many will remember ORD AMT TCC Jack O’Callaghan, whose generosity and ability to connect people across the industry helped establish relationships that still support our work today. His example continues to influence this effort.

That same commitment is reflected in Members like SAN AMT Ken MacTiernan, who has championed aviation students in the Aerospace Maintenance Competition, and ORD MTS Jim Stelter, who volunteers his time to teach, both last year and will be returning again. Their involvement shows what makes this Local strong: experience, professionalism, and a willingness to invest in the next generation.

TWU Local 591 is supporting a national research effort aimed at strengthening the aviation maintenance pipeline and improving training pathways for future aircraft mechanics.

We invite all AMTs to participate in a short, anonymous Job Satisfaction Survey that will help ensure future training reflects the lived experience of working aircraft mechanics.

2.  Supporting mentorship and community engagement
Local 591 has long been active in encouraging students and providing real-world exposure through mentorship, competition support, and volunteer teaching.

3.  Demonstrating leadership in the aviation community
By contributing to this national research, our Members will help guide industry expectations, professional standards, and the advancement of aviation maintenance education nationwide.
