Dear Members,
We want to provide an important update regarding your voluntary union-sponsored insurance benefits.
As part of the continued efforts by your TWU leadership to secure enhanced benefits at more competitive pricing, we transitioned our insurance broker services to Hub International. This move was made with the best interests of our membership in mind.
During the transition period, the previous voluntary benefits administrator prematurely terminated its contract with Piedmont, which is the firm responsible for collecting insurance premiums via paycheck direct deposit and remitting payments to insurance carriers. Unfortunately, that termination of premium payment collection occurred before a new agreement with Piedmont could be established by HUB and resulted in necessary access to essential benefit and insurance data needed to continue operations was withheld from both Hub and TWU leadership.
As a result of that action by your previous benefits administrator:
- Your direct deposit premium deductions were prematurely halted, and any collected funds have been returned to members.
- Despite the interruption in premium collection, your current coverage remains intact and has not been impacted.
We’re pleased to inform you that Hub and TWU have resolved the data access issues, and a new contract between Hub and Piedmont is being finalized. Once in place:
- Members will then be able to reinstate direct deposit deductions by updating their account information.
- Piedmont will begin recapturing and remitting premiums accordingly.
To ensure that all coverage remains paid in full, Piedmont will facilitate the recollection of any premiums returned or missed during this transition. Piedmont, Hub International, and your TWU leadership will communicate more details regarding repayment timing and available options in the coming weeks.
We all appreciate your patience and understanding during this process, and we remain committed to ensuring uninterrupted coverage and improved benefits for all members.
